Mike Dubnoff has photographed more than 1,900 Bay Area weddings in twenty years, close to 900 of them at San Francisco City Hall. Two shooters, always.
Approach
Mike is a rare San Francisco native, which after twenty years means knowing which corner of the Presidio still has light at six, and which staircase at City Hall is free while everyone else is queueing for the other one.
The style is a mix of photojournalism, documentary and traditional wedding work. Most of the day is left alone and simply watched. The portraits you actually want are set up properly, without a long list of poses and without anybody being marched around their own wedding.
Every wedding is covered by two people, an associate photographer or a trained assistant alongside Mike, and they are the same familiar faces rather than whoever was free that weekend. Somebody is always watching the second half of the room.
